Farrell Design-Build acquires Geopier® West's License for Northern California Territory, 1999.

Farrell Design-Build Companies, Inc. delivers the Award winning Geopier Foundation System in Northern California. In 1999, Father and Son joined to create a design-build family of services. “We’ve started with soil reinforcement and ground improvement,” says Michael Farrell, Principal and Construction Director of Farrell. As a Commercial General Contractor for the past 21 years in Northern California, Michael brings seasoned contracting experience and grace to our customers.

After building the Geopier foundation system since 1995 as a subcontractor, Michael and Tom join to create Farrell Design-Build and step up the heat in 1999 with the complete design-build delivery of the Geopier Foundation system. 

“Most of the challenges we face involve issues related to product education. Geopier is a new thing for engineers and contractors in California, they're so used to using driven piles,” says Tom Farrell, GE, President of Farrell. Once our customers see and experience the multiple values delivered with a Geopier System, they become repeat customers. “Delivering innovation, customer service, and quality products are at the core of Farrell Design-Build,” says Tom. "And with Geopier we can deliver all with good cost savings for the project."

In 1994, Tom reviewed and worked with Nathaniel Fox, PE, PhD, the Geopier inventor, to design the first Geopier project in California. “We were excited when Dr. Fox, President of Geopier Foundation Company, Inc., met with us about a project in Napa, California,” says Tom. At that time, Anderson Consulting Group dba Geopier West of Roseville designed and approved Geopier Soil Reinforcement for the Napa project. The South Napa Marketplace was the first Geopier project in California. The project received the 1995 California Geotechnical Engineers Association Project of the Year Award for geotechnical and foundation innovation.

Today, Geopier Soil Reinforcement supports 3 to 18 story buildings and parking garages in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Santa Clara, Chico, Sacramento, and all over California. “We’re looking forward to a successful future with the Geopier Foundation System,” says Tom.
